Our board represents a cross-section of our community and has a passion for our organization and those we serve. The members work hard to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization and oversee that the funds raised directly affect those in need.

John T James, PhD I Chairman
Retired NASA Chief of Toxicology. Patient safety advocate and member of Clear Lake UMC for 35 years. He has written two books: A Sea of Broken Hearts and Response Theology. Role: Chairperson, Covenant Partner Team and link to UHCL Sociology Department. (2025)

Rev. Gloria Villa Diaz, D.Min. | Secretary
Rev. Dr. Gloria V. Diaz, Bilingual Minister at New Day in Christ Ministries, pastoring individuals incarcerated, and presbytery pastor at Trinity Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. I became Secretary of the Board ten years ago. After a year on the Board, I realized my call was to help our clients see God next to them. I help them to restore their humanity through prayer, reading, and worship. I visit donors with a thank-you pie. (2026)

Frank C Turner, CPA I Treasurer
Frank has been involved in CFO and controller positions for Oil and Gas E&P companies for 30 years and is currently a practicing CPA for 8 years with eepb cpas. Role: Treasurer for Crossroads. Class of 2024. (2027)

Doug Fortner | Executive Director
Near the end of a forty-year career in computer software development, design and system implementation Doug came to Crossroads as a volunteer to help with computer operations in 2016. This initial volunteer work led Doug deeper into Crossroads operations and in 2017 the Board asked Doug to become its Executive Director. Doug has led the organization through a facility move, the COVID pandemic and a gradual expansion of services. (permanent)

Rev. Ed Gomez, Vicar I Voting Member
Ed is the Vicar of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Houston. He served as the former Executive Director of El Buen Samaritano in Austin. He has been clergy for 36 years. He is married to Denise Trevino and has three adult children and one granddaughter. His church hosts Crossroad’s mission work. (permanent)

Bryan Mayfield I Voting Member
Byan's an Army combat veteran and a stroke survivor. His professional background is based in IT services, including serving as an IT Manager for a major oil company. (2025)

Stormy is a native Houstonian who is Senior Counsel at Peckar & Abramson, a national construction law firm, with experience in construction, government contracting, and labor & employment. (2025)

Thomas Wood I Former Board Chair
Tom Wood is a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, teaching the Sunday morning Voyagers class, among other positions and responsible activities. Tom also serves the community by driving for Bay Area Meals on Wheels with other church/community members. Tom and Jill have two children, one of whom is an ordained Methodist pastor in the Texas Annual Conference.

James Webb | Former Board Chair
James Webb is an Elder at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Houston.
He is active in the Houston Bay Area Emmaus community, Camp Gilmont (counselor), Crossroads at Parkplace, Love Out Loud, and Young Life.
Married to Charelle and dad to their three kids: Davis, Aldan, Darcie. James and Charelle own a staffing company in Houston. -
Art Stephenson | Former Board Chair
Art Stephenson, former Director of NASA-Marshall Space Flight Center, is a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Since stepping down as Chairman of the Board, Art has invested considerable time in SIFAT, Servants in Faith and Technology, helping to bring clean water to inhabitants of Ecuador and other under served places in the developing world.
